The hiking is fantastic as Poland is full of forests and changing wildlife throughout the year. There around 2000km of walking trails well-signed and well-equiped with shelters. The most popular hiking routes are in the Tatra Mountains but those in the Pieniny, the Bieszczady or the Karkonosze are also popular walking destinations. The hiking trails are abundant and marked on most maps .Many of them lead through national parks and national nature reserves. The terrific scenery, combined with a sophisticated network of footpaths will reward your hassles. It is great pleasure to spend time face to face with nature and the trail. The Polish High Tatras are the part of the granite Carpathian Range, rising to almost 2500m. These mountains are one of the most rugged and spectacular ranges in Europe. You can trek through valleys, past lakes and over ridges to the top where you gain wonderful vista of another peaks in both Poland and across the border in Slovakia. On your way you can visit the picturesque mountain huts, basic but friendly, clean and hospitable. One of the most popular climbs in the Tatras is Mt Giewont (1894m), in Karkonosze (Sudeten Mountains) – Mt Sniezka (1602m). Hiking is strenuous at times but definitely adventurous and magical.
If you do not like mountains so much go for trekking in northern Poland, f. e.g. at the Slowinski National Park. Here you can enjoy hiking over moving sand dunes and watching the birds as it is the breeding ground of several species. Another option is to visit Bialowieski National Park (located along the eastern border), which is very popular for wildlife and photo hunting. You will spend your time in unspoiled nature, breathing clean and healthy air. This region is even called "Green Lungs of Poland". Here industrialisation and urbanisation processes are not much advanced, the ecological agriculture, agro- and nature tourism is developed. Definitely if you like walking in nature all the National Parks are worth visiting.
No matter, what trail you decide to explore, you will be amazed of diverse countryside that Poland has to offer.
